ForestrySA manages approximately 10,000 hectares of sustainable commercial pine plantations and 16,000 hectares of other forest reserves, which include community and recreational facilities, on behalf of the South Australian Government.

Working closely with the Board, the Chief Executive (CE) will shape strategic direction and drive change, including the development of ForestrySA’s strategic plan, policies and budgets. With a strong focus on optimising commercial outcomes, the CE will pursue environmentally sustainable growth opportunities, such as promoting forestry as a renewable resource, supporting demand for sustainable products and advancing climate and carbon-offset initiatives. Leading a high-performing team with a strong safety culture, the CE will deliver results by championing continuous improvement and ensuring priorities align clearly with ForestrySA’s strategic pillars, objectives and goals.

The successful candidate will bring a strong record of delivering commercial outcomes, broad experience in strategic and innovative leadership, and the professionalism and personal drive needed to navigate complex challenges. You will demonstrate courage in decision-making and leading change and be an exceptional communicator with an inspirational leadership style that builds strong relationships and fosters collaboration to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes. Candidates will also have proven experience working within industry, political and legislative environments at both Departmental and Ministerial levels, supported by strong advocacy and networking skills. A tertiary qualification in commerce, business, forestry or a related field is essential.  Knowledge of the forestry sector, including commercial plantation operations and/or conservation and land management, is highly desirable.
